Do your self a favor and read this touching emotional story of destined lovers; Rose and Brywnmor. This is the sequel to the other book in the series Heart and Soul, 'Hearts Ransom'. I REALLY recommend reading that story FIRST. That way you get to fall in love with Rose's parents and witness the bond that forms between young Rose and Brywnmor. It makes this story that much more satisfying. This story was beautifully told and emotionally enduring. The characters are very well developed, and EXTREMELY likable. Brynmor is a gentle giant of a man that is fierce in battle but also exceedingly honorable and loving. He is conflicted over his simple upbringing as a farmer and feels he doesn't deserve Rose. To Rose he is her knight in shining armor...the man that saved her as young child. Their love and bond is each others greatest strength...they just need to realize it. : )
I loved that we got to visit Rose's parents Talon and Gwen. I loved their love story and it was a joy reconnecting with them.
I HIGHLY recommend this story. It has everything a great Medieval Romance should...danger, intrigue, battle, honor, and love.
Happy Reading!!

Heart War Heart and Soul Book 2 edition by Kathryn Loch Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
We read a little about Rose and Bryn in her previous book, Hearts Ransom, (worth 5 stars in my opinion) and Ms. Loch has done it again! She has written a great book full of love, courage, and family in Hearts War. To my delight, the author brings Talon and Gwen back, continuing the saga by weaving history with a heartwarming story of two young lovers trying to survive in a time of war and hostility. She definitely did not disappoint! History, romance, danger, heroism, and so much more. I truly enjoyed reading this book, only wished there was another to follow.
I thoroughly enjoyed this very touching and emotional story of destined lovers... Rose and Brynmor. This is the sequel to the first book in the Heart and Soul series, Heart's Ransom. I recommend reading book 1 first, because then you get to fall in love with Rose's parents, Talon and Gwen, and read about the bond that forms between young Rose and Brynmor. It makes this story that much more satisfying.
The characters are all very well developed and it is easy to get attached to them and what they are going through. There is a lot that happens in this story with a great deal of political intrigue, but at the heart of the story there is romance and passion. I highly recommend this series, as Kathryn Loch writes a beautifully epic tale.
I quite enjoyed this book. Actually I enjoyed it more than the first in the series 'Heart's Ransom', which I gave a good review. I'd probably drop a half a star on that one now since when I quickly re-read parts of it so that I could read this one, there were things that bugged me. I was quite surprised that one of the reviewers thought this was a rehash of book one, for me it was very different. The things that bugged me in this book were also very different to the ones she mentions.
The h in this book was rescued by the H back in the first book, when she was 8 and was kidnapped. He was 18 at the time and the step-brother of the h in the first book. That h, Gwen, asked him to take over her inheritance in Wales and become the Earl of that property. It's quite complicated but the H was also named heir by Gwen's own father, when he married the H's mother. He always felt like a poor farmer's on and not a true noble. It's one of the weak points of the book for me because it's been 18 years since that all happened and he still doesn't feel worthy.
+++Spoilers+++
The H saw the h for the first time since he rescued her when she was 18 and he 10 years older. There was an attraction but nothing happens for another 8 years. This is my main reason for deducting the extra star. I'm a big romantic and if there were such a great connection between the main characters so I don't understand why they would've waited 8 years to act on it.
Anyway the story was pretty good as it hinges around hostilities in Wales and the various sides, which include the English (Longshanks) and the 2 princes of Wales at the time. The H is in an extremely difficult position and needs to choose. The h's father suggests that he marry the h and then he'll have a legitimate excuse for getting backing from the English. It's quite a complicated plot but very interesting. The course of true love doesn't run smoothly and it does take quite awhile before the main characters marry.
It really is a good love story with a very nice hea.
Ok, 5 Stars just doesn't cut it. 10 Stars might come close.
A fabulously written historical romance with all the suspense, political intrigue, human depth and wonderful characters I have come to know from Kathryn Loch.
Rose is an English noblewoman and Brynmor a Welsh freeman farmer who by fate comes to control the vast principality of Powys. Since their youth they have had a bond so strong that nothing and no-one could ever break. I can usually imagine myself as the heroine but in this case the bond between Rose and Brynmor is so strong that even in the world of my imagination there could be no-one but Rose for Brynmor.
Bryn is a man of few words but his actions display an honour and nobility that far surpass any other nobleman. Rose is a strong and feisty woman and a heroine I could admire. When the Castle Powys comes under attack while the men are away, she stands a post and fights to defend what she holds dear.
As Wales begins to fall into a war for independence, Brynmor is put in the unsavoury position of having to choose and alliance between his Welsh brethren and the English King Edward (Longshanks). Bryn has to make decisions that will affect not only him and his family but an entire population under his protection.
A wonderful read and I look forward to the next on the Heart and Soul series from Kathryn Loch!
